What are Exchange Web Services?

Exchange Web Services (EWS) is an application program interface (API) that allows to access Microsoft Exchange items such as calendars, contacts and email.

EWS provides access to much of the same data that is made available through Microsoft Office Outlook and MAPI. Impersonation rights are required to use it.
