An attribute is a property of a managed object that has a value.

For example, the mailbox whose display name is 'JSmith' is hosted on the server called EXCHANGE01 and its user, John Smith, belongs to the Sales Department. Here are a few attributes linked to the directory object JSmith:

• First name: John,
• Last name: Smith,
• Department: Sales Department,
• Server: EXCHANGE01.
